Equipment

  • 1 Espresso machine or coffee maker
  • 1 glass or mug
  • 1 spoon

Ingredients
  

  • 2 shots espresso
  • ½ cup water chilled and filtered
  • ½ cup ice cubes
  • ½ cup milk (optional)
  • 1-2 tsp sugar or other sweetener (optional)
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions
 

  • Brew 2 shots of espresso or brew 1/2 cup of strong coffee
  • Pour over 1/2 cup cold filtered water, and stir to combine
  • Allow the coffee to cool for 10 minutes
  • Add the ice cubes to a tall glass
  • Pour the coffee over the ice cubes
  • Add any sugar or other sweetener (optional)
  • Add chilled milk – either dairy or non dairy (optional)
  • Enjoy!

Notes

Top Tips

  • Use the best-quality, freshest coffee you can get for a richer and more flavorful experience.
  • Unless you have an espresso machine, brew your coffee using a method that extracts most flavor, such as a French Press or pour over.
  • Allow the brewed coffee to cool down before pouring it over the ice to stop it from melting the ice. If you melt the ice it just makes your coffee taste weaker.
  • I make up a large French Press full and leave it to stand while I am getting on with other jobs. Then when it's cool I pour it into a jug of ice cubes and put it in the fridge. That way I have iced coffee whenever I want it. Plus, there's enough to offer to friends and family.
  • Experiment with different sweeteners, such as simple syrup, honey, or agave nectar, to find your ideal level of sweetness.
  • Add a splash of milk, cream, flavored syrups, or even a scoop of ice cream for a delightful twist on this classic recipe.
  • For a dairy-free option, I like to try almond, soy, or oat milk. Non-dairy milks have gotten so much better recently.
