What is a latte
Latte simply means milk in Italian. So latte is not necessarily a coffee drink. It can be made with a wide range of different flavorings. If you ever find yourself in the mood for a coffee free, but still enjoyable, drink.
For us coffee drinkers, regular lattes are made with espresso and steamed milk. Espresso is usually brewed from dark-roast coffee beans, with milk frothed to a thick consistency.
But that’s just the starting point. There are so many variations you can make. You can start out simple by adding flavored syrups or cream to your lattes. Once you get more adventurous ty adding all kinds of great ingredients to your next latte.

Different types of lattes
It seems like every other day, a new type of latte is released to the public. Whether it be a pumpkin Spice Latte in the Fall, or a Peppermint Mocha Latte around Christmas time, these specialty coffee drinks are becoming more and more popular.
So let’s dive in and find out about the hottest types of lattes you can try right now.
Spanish
The secret to a Spanish latte is the scalded milk.
It’s made like regular latte but uses scalded milk that has been sweetened, usually with white sugar, or sweetened condensed milk. This gives a richer sweeter experience.
I know, scalding sounds extreme, but it just means heating milk to between 180-185°F (82-85°C).
If you can’t wait to try one, check out my Spanish latte recipe.
Why would you scald milk?
Scalding milk is a traditional way of killing bacteria (which is achieved nowadays by pasteurizing milk) . it also breaks down enzymes in the milk. This makes the milk easier to digest for some people with sensitivity to cow’s milk. It also gives the milk a distinctive caramelized flavor from the enhanced sugars.
A Spanish latte give you an extra boost of energy so is great as a morning starter or an afternoon pick-me-up to get you through to the end of the day.
Make it with a double shot of espresso and sweeten the milk for a truly seductive experience. Wow, the way its drunk in Spain, it can be so sweet. So if you prefer your latte less sweet, maybe make Spanish latte with less sugar.
Strawberry latte

Hi, I’m Eric Loftuss, co-founder of Bean Thirst with my wife Sophie.
My Coffee journey started young. I used to help my mom with the weekly shopping trip and we always called in to a coffee wholesaler and retail outlet in our town.
I really started to learn about coffee when, while in college, I worked in a local coffee shop and trained as a barista. Even though I went on to qualify and work as a lawyer, I still get a kick out of brewing a cup of Joe.
